Tickets must be processed correctly through the ticket gate. Failure to do so will result in you being denied access through the gate. The machine will inform you if anything is wrong with your ticket by closing the gate along with a warning sound. Please make sure to perform any necessary procedures (such as fare adjustment) prior to going through the ticket gate.
Tickets that are not processed correctly or need fare adjusting will not be accepted by the ticket gate. IC cards that are insufficient in funds or are damaged will not be usable with the Kyoto Municipal Subway, Kyoto City Bus, and other buses and railways as well.
If your ticket is denied by the machine, or if you are experiencing difficulties with the machine in general, please inform the station staff and they will assist you.
Certain machines are capable of accepting 2 tickets at the same time. In regard to ticket gates/machines that can accept 2 tickets at the same time, you can place both the ticket with insufficient funds and another that correctly balances the fare simultaneously and not have to worry about the fare adjustment machine.
Only prepaid cards of the same type as the one with insufficient funds can be used together.
You may not be able to insert two tickets at the same time depending on the combination of tickets.
Place your IC card onto the IC card reader when the scanner is emitting a blue light and place it there for about a second. The machine will make a sound to notify you when it has read your card.
Do not insert your IC card into the ticket slot. The machine and your IC card may be damaged.
