Zero-Waiting List for Nursery Schools Achieved
Kyoto City has reduced the number of people on waiting lists for nursery schools to zero, as the first city amongst government-ordinance-designated city in the Kansai region as of April 1st, 2014.
Since the city is setting the high-priority issue as the enhancement of child-raising environment, it has been working through new construction and extension, reconstruction of nursery schools, expanding a mid-day nursery home which is run by well-experienced nursery teachers, who offer care at their home. As a result, after 6 years of trying, 67 nursery places have made an improvement. Thus, the number of children entering the nursery schools has increased by 3,296 children compared to the April 2008, making the total number to 28,868, which is the maximum in history. This means that 43.5% out of the number of children entering elementary school are in nursery school, and this figure exceeds the average of 30.2 % of government-ordinance-designated cities. Kyoto City also allocates nursery school teachers more than the country's standard and also secures top levels for nationwide-salaries for private nursery teachers.
Since the demand for nursery schools is thought to be increasing, the City is planning to build and reconstruct 13 nursery schools, which will be superior in numbers compared to the record-high FY 2014 and this will also secure 675 children to enter the nursery school, etc. With aiming to have the No. 1 Japanese child-raising environment, Kyoto City will further work through enhancing its child-raising support now and in the future.

Submitting the Stock Holder Suggestions to the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.
Kyoto City has been submitting stock holder suggestions for 3 consecutive years to the Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. to switch its business policy for separating from nuclear power generation, etc.
The suggestion was made because of the accident that happened at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant in March 2011, and to request for constructing a society that is not dependent on nuclear power generation immediately. As for the sole request from the city, suggesting to construct a sustainable & safe electric power supply structure as soon as possible. And with Osaka City, co-suggesting 5 agendums including a securement of its transparency operation.
At the beginning, Kyoto City was also suggesting to hire someone as a board member from outside the company which would be a necessity for the realization of the above suggestions. But the city had turn down the request due to the decision of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., to submit the agenda which will take in Kyoto's suggestions directly.
The city is expecting the stock holders and citizens broad understandings and cooperation.
