Central wholesale markets emulated by other cities

The First Central Municipal Wholesale Market was Established to Serve as a Model of Other Cities' Wholesale Markets in 1927

Just before the opening of the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market
In 1927, Kyoto Municipal Central Wholesale Market dealing with fresh fish etc. started a business as the first wholesale market in Japan, which was attained after a series of challenges.
As it was the first and had no models, everything from selection of the site, design of the facilities, to management know-how had to be worked out from the beginning. What was worried about most was the layout of the buildings, including railroad sidings. After thorough consideration, arrival points of freight cars, places of unloading, markets, and storages were laid out so well to respond functionally to the flow of the goods that major cities' wholesale markets such as Tsukiji , Tokyo, were modeled after it. The second market was constructed to specially deal with meat in 1969. As the kitchen of Kyoto people, the first and second markets of Kyoto Central Municipal Wholesale Market keep on supplying a wide variety of food.
